Dear audience, honourable judges and respected opponents… This is how the Grand Final was opened by side proposition. This event was the result of a one-year-long journey. Though we haven’t made it into the last competition, this weekend was also for us the finale of a successful year.
After we have won 4 of 6 debates in this year, we were sure to not get in the finals anymore. But soon it turned out that we were among the 12 best debating teams of South Germany – we entered the finals as last of them.
We attended the finals with a group of six debaters. Waiting for us were three debates, two prepared and one impromtu debate, e.g. debates with just one hour of preparation time before debating.
Though we left with just one win, we have to say that this was our goal on this weekend as our opponents were the best teams in South Germany. We even raised our ranking from place twelve to place ten. And most importantly we have learned a lot from other teams for following debates about structuring arguments, presenting them during the debate and got an overview about other possibilities in the debating society.
At the end, our team wants to give thanks to everyone who allowed us to debate during this year and at the finals. First, to all the people that organised the events and of course to Mrs Hecker who was a great coach and supporter over the year.
